FC Goa started the match onto the front foot. However, a mistake in the back saw Naorem Mahesh taking the lead for SC East Bengal in the early part of the game. The goan team looked in a bit of shock but after the drinks break found their rhythm back. Their talismanic forward Ortiz curved the defence for Nogeura in the box. Nogeura's first time shot found the top corner and restored parity.
Goa then came close from the corner to get ahead in the match however Anwar Ali's effort was just wide. Just minutes later Anwar gave the ball to Mahesh in the box whose crunching shot hit the post and dropped just inside the goal. Goa tried to up the pressure in the last minutes but the East Bengal defence made superb blocks to keep the lead.
