Boxing has fetched the best results till now and the qualification of Vikas Krishan and Mary Kom could prove to be the icing on the cake. The duo will be bringing their share of experience to a younger team of the boxers who have qualified for the first time.
Among the first women to qualify was Pooja Rani who is also the Asian Championships gold medalist. She could not qualify for the Rio Olympics in 2016 but this time she didn't leave the opportunity sleep away. Mary will definitely bring her share of experience to the squad which also includes Simranjeet Kaur and Lovlina Borgohain. For both the young boxers, it is a new experience and to have a legend like Mary will only be a bonus.
For male boxer too, we have Vikas Krishan as an inspiration who is only the second boxer to qualify for Olympics, the first being Vijender Singh. Krishan had switched to amateur boxing after a career in professional boxing and can surely share his experience and insights to the inexperienced side of the team.
Both the players are likely to bring a lot of composure to the squad. It has been memorable especially, for Mary Kom who has made a giant comeback after the birth of her third child. She will add value to the team. In an interview with Olympic channel, she mentioned that being a girl and opting for such a sport is the biggest hurdle and making a comeback after giving birth is inspiration for money.
This is the best ever show by the Indian Boxing team since the time they have participated in the Olympics as till now 9 boxers have qualified and qualifying tournaments are still left.
