U19 World Boxing C'ships: Four Indian girls seal spots in final, 17 medals confirmed
Anjali, Chanchal, Krisha, and Vini reached the final in the female categories at the World U19 Boxing Championships in Colorado, USA.
Four Indian female boxers reached the finals in their respective weight categories at the U19 World Boxing Championships in Colorado, USA, on Tuesday night.
Indian athletes Anjali Kumari, Chanchal Chaudhary, Krisha Verma, and Vini secured their places in the gold medal matches.
In the female categories, India now has seven potential gold medallists, as Vanshka Goswami (80+), Kritika Wasan (80), and Akansha Phalaswal (70) already reached the final.
Anjali, continuing her blazing form, delivered another stunning performance to seal her spot in the female 57kg final with a commanding 5-0 victory over Japan’s Okayama Sakura.
Chanchal Chaudhary also advanced to the final in the female 48kg category after defeating Australia's Anderton Leah 5-0.
India’s dominance in the tournament continued with Krisha Verma, who, competing in the female 75kg category, reached the final with a close 3-2 win over New Zealand’s Nikah Perez. Vini, meanwhile, secured a place in the gold medal bout by defeating Australia’s Storch Ciara 4-1.
In the male category, Krrish Pal confirmed India’s seventh medal by reaching the semifinal with a victory over Joseph Turner of England via a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) decision in the 55kg category.
Earlier, Rishi Singh (50kg), Sumit (70kg), Rahul (75kg), Aryan (85kg), Hemant Sangwan (90kg) and Lakshay Rathi (90+ Kg) had also reached the semifinals in their respective categories.
However, Lakshay Rathi narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, losing 2-3 to England’s Atang Leo in the male 90+kg semifinal and winning the bronze medal.
With 17 medals already confirmed, Indian youth boxers have set an impressive standard at the event. Several other Indian athletes will compete in semifinal bouts on Wednesday night, raising the nation’s hopes for more gold medal opportunities in both the male and female categories.
