Asian Games gold medal winner Vikas Krishan sealed his spot in the Indian men's boxing squad for the Olympic Qualifiers that will be held in February in China after he won his final bout in the trials in Karnataka on Monday.

Competing in the 69kg weight category, the former world champion, who would earlier fight in the 75kg division, made a memorable comeback to boxing after recovering from a back injury that he had sustained in his stint in the pro circuit. The 26-year old Krishan defeated national medalist Duryodhan Singh Negi in a unanimous decision to book his spot in the squad that will go to Wuhan.

Also qualifying for the Qualifiers that will be held from February 3 to 14, 2020, were the duo of Gaurav Solanki and Naman Tanwar - both Commonwealth Games medalists. While Solanki got the better of Mohammed Hussamuddin in the 57kg event, Tanwar edged past Naveen Kumar in the 91kg event. Both won their bouts on split verdicts.

Earlier on Sunday, the first day of the trials, Asian silver medal winner Ashish Kumar (75kg), Satish Kumar (+91kg) and Sachin Kumar, competing in the 81kg category booked their spots in the men's boxing squad.

Ashish had defeated current national champion and South Asian Games gold medal winner Ankit Khatana in a unanimous decision, while Satish, a CWG medalist, won against Narender in a split verdict. Sachin, on the other hand, defeated Brijesh Yadav to proceed to the next stage.

Amit Panghal and Manish Kaushik, competing in the 52kg and 63kg respectively had earlier sealed their spots for the Qualifiers after returning with medals in the World Championships that was held in September. Panghal had claimed a silver medal, whereas Kaushik brought home a bronze, which allowed them to skip the trials.
