Celebrated Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen assumed the charge as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana Police in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The two-time World Championships gold medallist took charge of the post in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President B. Mahesh Goud, Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGMREIS) President and Vice Chairman Faheem Qureshi, Telangana DGP Dr. Jitendra, and other esteemed dignitaries.

"Honoured and deeply grateful to have been officially felicitated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana @revanth_anumula (Revanth Reddy) sir with the DSP post in the Telangana Police. I also extend my heartfelt thanks to the Government of Telangana for this incredible opportunity and their support. Sports gave me the platform, and today, it allows me to serve in a greater capacity. This is not just my achievement, but our collective triumph. With all my heart, thank you!" Nikhat wrote on X.

Nikhat assumed the charge after the state government announced her appointment last month.

The event saw CM Reddy launching the CM's Cup to encourage sports talent across the state.

Reddy also hailed Nikhat for her accomplishments at the international level. He also said that the youngsters should follow in Nikhat's footsteps.

Nikhat reported to the Director General of Police, Jitender on her first day on duty.

Hailing from the state's Nizamabad district, Nikhat rapidly rose in the international ring, emerging as a solid Indian hope, having won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the Asian Games. She also represented India at the recently concluded Olympics in Paris, but failed to impress.
