Commonwealth Games 2026: All you need to know about Sachin Siwach

Sachin Siwach will make his Commonwealth Games debut when he represents India in the men's 60kg boxing event at Glasgow 2026.

One of India's most accomplished boxers, Siwach has won world and youth titles and has consistently represented the country on the international stage.

Early days

Born on December 6, 1999, in Mitathal village near Bhiwani, Haryana, Sachin Siwach comes from a farming family with deep roots in boxing.

His father, Krishan Siwach, is the brother of Olympic medallist Vijender Singh, while his uncle, Pawan Siwach, encouraged him to take up the sport.

Sachin began boxing in 2009 at the age of 10 after joining the Captain Hawa Singh Academy in Bhiwani. Initially, coach Sanjay Sheoran was reluctant to admit him because he was undernourished.

However, his father remained determined and worked tirelessly to support his son's dream, even arranging fresh milk at home to meet his nutritional needs.

Rise through the ranks

Sachin's rise began with impressive performances at the junior and youth levels. He won bronze at the 2015 AIBA Junior World Championships before becoming only the third Indian boxer to claim gold at the AIBA Youth World Championships in 2016.

He followed that up with gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games and silver at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships. His performances earned him the Asian Boxing Confederation's Best Asian Men's Youth Boxer award in 2017.

After transitioning to the senior circuit, Sachin won silver at the India Open International Tournament and bronze at the Gee-Bee Boxing Tournament in 2019. He also claimed the gold medal at the South Asian Games.

His senior World Championships debut came in 2023, where he reached the pre-quarterfinals. In 2024, he came close to qualifying for the Paris Olympics after reaching the semifinals of the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament.

Achievements

Sachin has continued to deliver consistent performances on the international circuit. In 2024, he won gold at the prestigious Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria.

The following year, he claimed bronze medals at the Brazil and Kazakhstan legs of the World Boxing Cup before reaching the Round of 16 at the World Championships. He also secured another bronze medal at the World Boxing Cup Finals.

At the domestic level, he won the 60kg title at the Elite Men's National Boxing Championships. Representing the Indian Army as Havildar Sachin Siwach, he added another international gold to his resume by winning the Grand Prix Championship in the Czech Republic in 2026.

Overcoming setbacks

Sachin has had to overcome several setbacks during his career. A wrist injury between 2018 and 2019 temporarily stalled his progress before he made a full recovery.

Later, he was forced to withdraw from the Asian Boxing Championships after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis in Patiala, which kept him out of action for nearly a month.

He bounced back strongly after recovering, reaching the pre-quarterfinals of the 2023 World Championships. He also advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Games before losing a closely contested bout to China's Lü Ping.

Now, Sachin is set to make his Commonwealth Games debut as one of India's leading contenders in the men's 60kg category.
