The ‘next Usain Bolt’ mania doesn't seem to be fading away any time soon. After Srinivas Gowda became a social media frenzy for running 142.5-metre Kambala race in 13.62 seconds (which can be equated to completing 100 metres in 9.55 seconds ) another Kambala racer has created a stir. Nishant Shetty now has bettered Gowda's record. Shetty covered 143 metre in 13.68 seconds and is expected to have run 100-metere distance in 0.04 fewer seconds compared to Gowda.

Shetty is reported to have achieved the feat at the Soorya-Chandra Jodukare Kambala at Venoor.

Gowda, after his sprint, was invited by Union Sports minister Kiren Rijiju to train as Sports Authority of India center in Bangalore but he declined the offer. Gowda was also facilitated by the Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yedyurappa.

Kambala is an annual buffalo race where the men run alongside buffaloes at the race held in the southwestern states of Karnataka. Traditionally, it is sponsored by local Tuluva landlords and households in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

The past few days have been immensely popular for Kambala as a sport and its players being compared to the legend of track, Usain Bolt. Kiren Rijiju, Sports Minister himself called Shrinivasa Gowda for the trials and asked the sports administrators to conduct the trials.
