BWF World Junior C'ships: 3 Indian shuttlers advance to quarterfinals
Tanvi Sharma and Aalisha Naik in women's singles while Pranay Shettigar in men's singles advanced to the quarterfinals.
The young Indian shuttlers continued their good showing at the BWF World Junior Championships as three Indian players booked their spot in the quarterfinals in Nanchang, China on Thursday.
Tanvi Sharma and Aalisha Naik in the women's singles category while Pranay Shettigar in the men's singles category advanced to the quarterfinals with straight-game wins.
On the other hand, it was the end of the journey for the mixed doubles pair of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala Kalagotla in the round of 16, losing (13-21, 16-21) to the Chinese pair of Li Hong Yi and Zhang Jia Han.
The 15-year-old Tanvi Sharma, continuing her good form from the team event, earned a spot in the quarterfinal with a clinical victory in the straight games (21-18, 21-13) over Niina Matsuta of Japan.
She will now face the third-seeded Xu Weng Zing of China tomorrow. A win in this quarterfinal match will assure a maiden medal for Tanvi at this prestigious tournament.
Additionally, Aalisha Naik also claimed a straight-game (21-17, 21-17) victory against Lim Zhi Shin of Malaysia to reach the quarterfinal of the women's singles category.
She is the second Indian in the quarters of this category and will be fighting for a medal against her quarterfinal opponent, Dai Qin Yi of China tomorrow.
On the other hand, sixth-seeded Pranay Shettigar is the lone Indian in the men's singles quarterfinal as he took a straight-game (21-14, 21-17) win over his Thai opponent, Eakanath Kitkawinroj.
