Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand made a winning start to their Macau Open campaign as the Indian duo came from behind to beat Japan's Akari Sato and Maya Taguchi 15-21, 21-16, 21-14 at Macao East Asian Games Dome, Macau, on Tuesday.

The third-seeded Indian duo, who made a first-round exit from the China Open last week, lost the opening game against Akari and Maya. However, they showed their tremendous fighting spirit by claiming the next two games to book a place in the pre-quarterfinals.

Treesa and Gayatri will face off against the winners of the first-round clash between Lin Chih Chun - Teng Chun Hsun and Chiu Pin Chian - Tung Ciou Tong in the pre-quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, N Sikki Reddy and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde sealed their place in the women's doubles main draw of the Super 300 event.

The Indian pair defeated Hong Kong's Yan Yu Cheung and Chi Chu Wing in straight games (21-10, 21-15) in 29 minutes.

Sikki Reddy and Ruthvika will face Nicole Gonzales Chan and Yang Chu Yun of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.

In the men's singles qualification round, Alap Mishra overcame a tough challenge against Thailand's Korakrit Laotrakul (22-20, 21-3) in the first round.

He followed that performance against fellow Indian Aryamann Tandon and won 21-10, 24-22 to set up a Round of 32 clash against Ayush Shetty. Earlier, Aryamann won a three-game thriller against compatriot Tharun Mannepalli in the first round of qualifiers.

Darshan Pujari, however, exited the Macau Open by giving a walkover to Japan's Riku Hatano.

On Wednesday, several other Indian shuttlers will be in action, including Kidambi Srikanth, Mithun Manjunath, Sameer Verma, Isharani Baruah, Anupama Upadhyaya, Tasnim Mir, Tanya Hemanth, and Chirag Sen.
