In highly disappointing news for sports fans in the country, four top badminton players – Parupalli Kashyap, HS Prannoy, Gurusaidutt and Jerry Chopra have tested positive for Covid-19, but thankfully all of them are reported to be asymptomatic and are self-isolated.

Keeping in mind the alarming rate of false positive in the country, the players have been advised to get tested again on Monday. While Gurusaidutt was on a break for his wedding, the others were all training at the Pullela Gopichand Academy. However as the players attended the wedding of Gurusaidutt, all the trainees of the Academy were also tested as a precautionary measure.

Surprisingly, Guru’s wife Amulya Gulapalli and Kashyap’s wife and star India player, Saina Nehwal, have been tested negative for the deadly virus.

This incident comes just a month after Lakshya Sen, Ajay Jayram and Shubhankar Dey had to pull out of SaarLorLux Open after Lakshya’s father and coach – DK Sen had tested positive after reaching Germany for the tournament.

Earlier, doubles player Swastiksairaj Rankireddy had also been tested positive for the virus in August but has now returned to his training routines without any major problems.
