Tanvi Patri clinches women's singles title at Badminton Asia U17 Championships
The former Asian U15 champion defeated fellow compatriot Shaina Manimuthu in the three-game title clash.

Tanvi Patri continues her impressive run on the international stage, winning the Badminton Asia U17 Championships 2026 in Chengdu, China, on Sunday.
In an all-Indian women's singles final, the 15-year-old came from a game down to beat her fellow compatriot Shaina Manimuthu in a tight three-game match, 11-15, 15-10, 15-12.
This is Tanvi's second age-group Asian title after winning the Asian U15 Championships in 2024, whereas the 2025 Asian U15 champion, Shaina, finished as runner-up.
Just a few weeks after claiming her first senior international title at the Pontianak International Challenge in Indonesia, Tanvi has now secured a continental title on the junior circuit.
The second-seeded Indian recorded several impressive wins on her way to the title, defeating three shuttlers from the powerhouse Chinese team and one Japanese shuttler.
This success gives India its second consecutive women’s singles U17 Asian title, following Diksha Sudhakar’s gold last year—the country’s first-ever victory in the event.
It was India’s only final of the day, after the U15 men’s doubles pair of Aaditya Negi and Tanmay Verma lost in the semi-finals and settled for bronze.
