Badminton Asia Junior C'ships: Tanvi Patri is the women's U15 champion
Tanvi defeated Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen of Vietnam in the final to clinch the title in the U15 women's singles category.
The young teenage sensation Tanvi Patri continued her dominating play at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships and became the champion of the women's singles U15 category on Sunday.
The 13-year-old defeated the second-seeded Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen of Vietnam in the final after a straight-game (22-20, 21-11) affair to confirm her gold medal from the championships.
Tanvi didn't have a good start to the match and was trailing big (11-17) in the middle phase of the first game but then Nguyen lost her composure and made a lot of unforced errors and dragged Tanvi back in the game.
The young Indian took full advantage of this one chance of a comeback and closed the first game in her favor after a deuce game.
In the second game, Tanvi showed an excellent bounce-back and started dominating from the start and comfortably clinched the game to claim her championship title.
Tanvi entered the tournament as a top seed and she proved this worth with a dominating display as she won the title without dropping any game in the tournament.
This was the second medal for India at this tournament after the bronze medal of Tankara Gnana Dattu Talasila in the U17 men's singles category on Saturday.
Dattu, the second seed in his category, fell short (21-9, 13-21, 13-21) in his semifinal match against Indonesian shuttler Radithya Bayu Wardhana, despite a strong start.
