Syed Modi India International: Dhruv-Tanisha, Sumeeth-Sikki progress to R16

Indian mixed doubles pairings had a mixed day at the Syed Modi India International, a Super 300 event, in Lucknow on Tuesday.

Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto edged China's Han Yu Zhang and Li Jing Bao to advance to the second round. Dhruv and Tanisha defeated Zhang and Bao 12-21, 21-15, 21-17 in 62 minutes.

The experienced duo of B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy also progressed as they beat fellow Indian pairing of Sunjith Subramanian and Gowri Krishna TR 21-10, 21-18.

Six more Indian pairings progressed to the second round. Chayanit Joshi and Kavya Gupta won a thrilling two-game match against Bokka Navaneeth and Ritika Thaker 21-19, 22-20. Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde beat Nithin and Anagha Aravinda Pai 21-14, 21-12.

Deep Rambhiya-Simran Singhi defeated Ashith Surya-Amrutha Pramuthesh 21-15, 14-21, 21-11. Mohit and Lakshita, on the other hand, beat Kona Tarun and Sri Krishna Priya 19-21, 21-14, 21-11.

In another three-game duel, Gouse Shaik-Maneesha K beat Nitin Kumar-Ridhi Kaur Toor 21-16, 12-21, 21-19. Vishnu Sreekumar and Aparna Balan handed Suraj Goala and Navdha Manglam a 21-19, 21-11 defeat.

However, Ayush Agarwal and Shruti Mishra failed to overcome the first-round hurdle as they lost to Thailand's Phuwanat Horbanluekit and Fungfa Korpthammakit 14-21, 21-19, 17-21.

Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan, on the other hand, suffered a straight-game defeat to Tien Ci Wong and Chiew Sien Lim of Malaysia 12-21, 10-21.

Also making a first-round exit were Sathwik Reddy and Vaishnavi Khadkekar as they lost 9-21, 12-21 to China's Zhi Hong Zhou and Ji Yia Yang.

Meanwhile, in another big development, India's premier men's doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pulled out of the event, giving a walkover to the Chinese pairing of Chen Xu Jun and Guo Ruo Han.
