It was a historic moment when the Indian badminton team entered the group 2 stage of Sudirman Cup in the year 2007. The run was nothing less than inspirational. This feat was achieved for the first time by the Indian squad since the tournament had begun.

India had topped Group 3B with a win over Australia (4-1), Ukraine (5-0) and Scotland (5-0) and had rolled over Group 3A toppers Bulgaria to promote themselves to Group 2 of the World Mixed Team Championships.

It was the time when Indian badminton sensation Saina Nehwal had just started spreading her wings. It was indeed one of the best performance as a team.

Former badminton player Aparna Balan shared a picture on twitter remembering the historic moment.

Saina Nehwal and Ashwini Ponnappa reacted to the picture saying 'Great memories' and 'Omg !!! What a flashback' on their respective twitter handles.

Sudirman Cup is a mixed team championship that takes place every two years. The Sudirman Cup is an international competition that does not stage a qualification round. The competing teams are divided into 7 groups based on their performances. Only teams in Group 1 will have a chance to lift the trophy as the teams in other groups fight for promotion.

Though China won the tournament for the seventh time, India had an amazing run in the tournament.
