PV Sindhu, who has been away from international events since her pre-quarterfinal exit from the Paris Olympics 2024 on August 1, will begin her campaign in the new Olympic cycle at the Arctic Open Super 500 (October 8-13) in Finland, said the shuttler's father PV Ramana.

The two-time Olympic medal-winning shuttler is currently training in Hyderabad under Anup Sridhar, having moved out of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru.

“She is back in practice at the Gachibowli stadium in Hyderabad, and will start with the Arctic Open in Finland," Ramana told Indian Express, adding that the shuttler aims to win a medal at the 2026 Asian Games.

Sindhu decided to take a break from international events since she lost to He Bing Jiao in the pre-quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics.

“Regarding my future, I want to be clear; I will continue, albeit after a small break. My body and more importantly, my mind need it. However, I plan to carefully evaluate the journey ahead finding more joy in playing the sport I love so very much," the 29-year-old had said after her pre-quarterfinal defeat.

During Sindhu's campaign in Europe, where she will also compete in the Denmark Open (October 15-20), Sridhar will be accompanying her. Sridhar will also oversee Sindhu's campaign during Asian tour events like Korea, Kumamoto and China Masters.

“We are looking for a new coach with Agus’s (Agus Dwi Santoso) contract ending. We are keen to see how a partnership with Anup Sridhar works out, and are looking at 4-5 names going forward. Anup will travel to Finland and will train her in Hyderabad in coming days,” Ramana said.

Sindhu has been titleless since July 2022 when she won the Singapore Open. As she looked regain her domination, her focus will be on regaining fitness and sharpening her game.

Sindhu last competed in the BWF World Tour at the Indonesia Open Super 1000 in June where she made a first-round exit.
