Asian Games 2026: PV Sindhu beats World No. 7 Tomoka Miyazaki to reach quarterfinals

PV Sindhu advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Japan’s World No. 7 Tomoka Miyazaki 21-9, 21-13 in the third round on Saturday.
Sindhu produced a dominant display against Miyazaki, controlling the contest from the outset to secure a straight-game victory.
The Indian former world champion maintained her advantage throughout the opening game and closed it out 21-9. She continued in the same vein in the second, eventually winning 21-13 to seal her place in the last eight.
The victory marks another step forward for Sindhu in her Asian Games campaign as she looks to add to her medal tally at the continental event.
Earlier in the day, Unnati Hooda also progressed in the women’s singles, while Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced in women’s doubles after defeating world No. 3 Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto.
India’s men’s singles campaign, however, ended with Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty exiting the competition.
