Malaysia Open Highlights: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 on Thursday following a 21-15, 21-15 win in the men's doubles Round of 16.

The others in contention including the women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand, women's singles shuttler Malvika Bansod, HS Prannoy in men's singles all crashed out of the competition.

    That's all we have from the Malaysia Open Super 1000 tonight. The day started with a lot of hope for Indian fans, but ends with only the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty left in contention for the quarter-finals.

    Malvika Bansod, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand, Sathish Karunakaran-Aadya Variyath, Tanisha Crasto-Dhruv Kapila all bowed out, losing their respective R16 matches.

    Malvika Bansod's run at the Malaysia Open Super 1000 is cut short in the Round of 16. She goes down to Han Yue 18-21, 11-21 in 37 minutes at the Axiata Arena.

    Han Yue has completely switched the gears in the second game. She has cut down the errors and Malvika Bansod has no answers. The Indian trails 3-11 at the mid-game interval.

    This should be over very quickly by the looks of it.

    What Satwik-Chirag had to say after match?

    "Happy to be back on court and a good start to the year," said Chirag Shetty after the win. 

    "All good [about his shoulder injury]. It was a bit hectic after the Olympics, but we are fresh and good to go. We started with a new coach, so no pressure nothing. We wanted to play as many matches as possible, go as long as possible," said Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.

    Satwik-Chirag reach quarter-finals

    India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have made their way into the quarter-finals of the 2024 Malaysia Open Super 1000.

    They beat Malaysia's N Azriyn and Tan Wee Kiong 21-15, 21-15 in 45 minutes.
