Japan Masters 2024: Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffer first round exit
The Indian doubles pair succumbed in straight sets to Chinese Taipei's Hsu Yin Hui and Lin Jhih Yun.
The Indian women double's pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela lost in the opening round of the 2024 Japan Masters, on Tuesday.
Facing Chinese Taipei's Hsu Yin Hui and Lin Jhih Yun, the Indian duo lost in straight games 16-21, 16-21, with the match lasting just 36 minutes.
The first game started with both pairings going toe to toe, but the Chinese Taipei pair carved out a three-point lead at the mid-game interval, leading 11-8.
They capitalized on their advantage and proceeded to close out the game 21-16, taking a 1-0 lead.
The second game followed the script of the first game, with Yin-Hui and Jhih Yun taking a lead over the Indians as they headed into the mid-game interval with a four point lead 11-7.
Gayatri and Treesa did fight back after the break, taking five consecutive points to level the score line at 12-12.
But the Chinese Taipei pair managed to pull themselves together and restored their lead before wrapping up the game by taking nine of the next 13 available points.
Thereafter, they kept the momentum and won the second game with the same score line, 21-16, and won the match in straight sets.
With this defeat, Gayatri and Treesa exit the Japan Masters, which also features Lakshya Sen and P.V Sindhu, who will play in the coming days.
The Japan Masters 2024 is part of the BWF World Tour and is a Super 500 event being held in Kumamoto, Japan between November 12 and November 17.
