Indonesia Open 2022, Day 1 HIGHLIGHTS: Sindhu, Praneeth knocked out, Sameer wins — Scores, Results, Updates, Blog
Indian shuttlers had a disappointing start at the Indonesia Open 2022 with Pv Sindhu, Sai Praneeth crashing out in the first round. Only Ashwini-Sikki and Sameer Verma have progressed.
India had a disappointing start in the tournament with ace shuttler PV Sindhu crashing out in her opening game against He Bing Jiao of China. Sindhu lost by 14-21, 18-21. Meanwhile, B Sai Praneeth also exits the tournament losing to Hans Vittinghus in his first match by straight games of 16-21, 19-21.
The mixed doubles duo of Ishaan-Tanisha also lost to Chang Tak Ching/NG Wing Yung, 21-14, 21-11. In men's doubles, Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy also lost to third-seeds Takuro Hoki and Teo Ee Yi in straight games, 21-8, 21-11.
The only silver lining of the day has come from some solid performances from veterans Ashwini Ponnappa/N Sikki Reddy and Sameer Verma. Ashwini-Sikki easily defeated the pair of Srivedya Gurazada and Ishika Jaiswal, 21-15, 21-8 while Sameer Verma also had a no-nonsense outing against Frenchman Thomas Rouxel, winning 21-19, 21-15.

Sindhu vs Bing Jiao Head-to-Head
He Bing Jiao and Sindhu have faced each other 17 times with the Chinese having a slight edge of 9-8 over Sindhu in their head-to-head record. The Indian, however, has won their last three meetings in a row, with one of them coming at the Tokyo Olympics bronze medal play-off last year.
Their most recent clash was at the Badminton Asia Championships in April this year, where PV Sindhu emerged a 21-9, 13-21, 21-19 winner.
