India Open: Viktor Axelsen, An Se-Young clinch singles titles
Malaysia, Japan, and China clinched doubles titles at the India Open 2025, with standout victories in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles finals, respectively.
Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen and An Se-Young showcased their class with stunning performances to win the men’s and women’s singles titles at the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament held in New Delhi.
In the men’s final, Axelsen triumphed over Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in straight games, 21-16, 21-8, at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall. Axelsen, a two-time world champion, dominated the match with his powerful smashes and controlled gameplay.
This victory was especially satisfying for Axelsen, who had lost to Lee in the opening round of the Malaysian Open just a week earlier.
The KD Jadhav Indoor Hall was packed with enthusiastic spectators despite no Indian shuttlers reaching the finals.
The women’s singles final saw South Korea’s An Se-Young deliver a flawless performance against Thailand’s P Chochuwong. An cruised to victory, 21-12, 21-9, showcasing her speed and precision.
In doubles action, Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin outclassed South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in the men’s doubles final, winning 21-15, 13-21, 21-16. Meanwhile, Japan’s Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto claimed the women’s doubles crown, defeating South Korea’s Kim Hye Jang and Kong Hee Young 21-15, 21-13.
China’s Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin rounded off the finals with a victory in the mixed doubles, overcoming France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue 21-18, 21-17.
