French Open Highlights: Day 3 - Satwik-Chirag advance; Men's Singles challenge ends - Updates, Results, Scores, Blog
Satwik/Chirag are the only remaining Indian shuttlers in the French Open 2022.
Day 3 of the French Open saw most of the Indian shuttlers bow out after tough draws and equally gritty displays while a consistent pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty keep India's medal hopes afloat.
It was Sat/Chi who defeated the Malaysian duo Man/Tee in straight sets (21-16, 21-14) but it was downhill for the Indians from there. After a strong start from Kidambi Srikanth, which saw him win the first set 21-19, the India succumbed to a 12-21, 19-21 defeat to Denmark's Rasmus Gemke.
After a brave win in the Round of 32, Sameer Verma bowed out after conceding straight sets to Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn 18-21, 11-21. The final disappointment of the day came when HS Prannoy exited after a very close match against China's Lu Guangzu.
After losing the first set, Prannoy got back into the game with a 22-20 win the second. Ultimately, the Chinese got the better of the Indian as Lu won the final set 21-19. This saw the end of India's men singles challenge at the French Open.
Satwik/Chirag will meet Japan's Kobayashi/Hoki in the men's doubles quarter-final on 28th October, Friday.
