Indian shuttler PV Sindhu exited the 2024 Denmark Open Super 750 in the quarterfinals on Friday, losing to fifth seed Gregoria Tunjung of Indonesia.

The match lasted just under an hour, with Tunjung winning 2-1 (21-13, 16-21, 21-9).

This marks only the third victory for Tunjung against Sindhu in eleven encounters, with Sindhu having won ten of them.

With Sindhu’s exit, the Indian challenge at the Denmark Open comes to an end.

Right from the first game, Tunjung asserted her authority in the match, racing to an early lead and maintaining it throughout, ultimately winning the game 21-13 quite comfortably.

Sindhu fought back in the second game, taking a 6-1 lead. However, an eight-point streak by Tunjung meant Sindhu was once again on the back foot.

Not to be outdone, Sindhu kept her composure and reclaimed the lead, making no mistakes in retaining it all the way through, winning the game 21-16 and taking the match to a decider.

In the final game, Tunjung showed no mercy, stepping on the gas from the first point and quickly taking control. She headed into the interval with an 11-4 lead and continued to push forward, winning the decider comfortably with a score of 21-9.

Final score: PV Sindhu 1-2 Gregoria Tunjung (13-21, 21-16, 9-21).
