Could have been patient: Lakshya Sen, on India Open exit
The 23-year-old shuttler was beaten by Lin Chun-Yui in the opening round.
There was a lot of buzz in the arena when Lakshya Sen arrived for his first-round match at the 2025 India Open on Wednesday.
Facing Chinese Taipei's Lin Chun-Yui, the Indian was expected to progress through to the second round but to everyone's shock, he succumbed to the Taiwanese, losing in straight games (21-15, 21-10).
The 23-year-old, who finished fourth in the Paris Olympics, also exited early in the recently concluded Malaysia Open, losing in the opening round to Chi Yu Jen.
"Couldn't play my game"
Speaking to the reporters after his defeat, Sen couldn't fault his preparations leading up to the tournament.
"I think couldn't play my game and yeah, overall the movements were a bit slow today. But yeah, credit to him (Chun-Yui). He played a really good game," he said.
Sen, however, did mention that he was prepared for the match.
"I was prepared for a good match and I prepared really well against him and the strategies. But yeah, I think today was the day I couldn't find my grip on it."
In particular, Sen spoke about how he was unable to exert control on the game to match Chun-Yui's pace.
"I think overall the pace of the game he was dictating and I was just moving around," he asserted.
He also talked about how he could have been 'more patient' and that the outcome could have been different had he not conceded too many 'chances.'
"I think it's just a bad day," he reckoned.
But he was confident that with tournaments and matches fast approaching, this loss was nothing but a bump in the road.
"I think it's time to now focus and prepare for the next matches. So really looking forward to it (upcoming tournaments) and looking forward to playing more matches," he concluded.
