Kidambi Srikanth went down fighting against Taiwan’s Wang Tzu-wei while PV Sindhu tasted defeat against Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in their respective group stage clashes at the BWF World Tour Finals on Thursday.

Srikanth won the first game 21-19 using his trademark energy, making his opponent scurry all over the court. Ranked 12 in the world, Wang came back strong and dominated the second game, winning it comprehensively in the end by 21 points to 9.

After an hour and fifteen minutes of non-stop running and exhilarating action, the Taiwanese eventually got the better of India’s former world number one shuttler as he prevailed 21-19 in the third game, but not before Srikanth saved three match points and brought the score from 20-16 to 20-19.

On the other hand, Sindhu’s defeat was more straightforward as she went down 21-18, 21-13 against her world number 5 ranked Thai opponent. The Indian ace never really got into the game and was dominated for the entirety of the highly anticipated clash.
