World Athletics Relays 2026: Indian teams fail to reach finals - Highlights

Five Indian relay teams were in action in the qualifying stage on the opening day of the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, on Saturday.
Animesh Kujur and Vishal TK lead their respective teams but failed to win a spot in the final, which would have also secured a spot for the World Championships 2027.
The teams will now return tomorrow for the second chance at the World Championships quota via repechage.

Animesh Kujur drops the baton; DNF for the Indian mixed 4x100m team
Animesh couldn't control the exchange on the third leg and hence had to pull out of the race from Nithya Gandhe's exchange.
The team will return tomorrow for the second round of the World Championships Qualifiers.

India will field Tamilarasu Senthilkumar, Nithya Gandhe, Animesh Kujur and Sneha SS in the mixed 4x100m qualifying round. (Indian NR is 42.30s.)
India is placed in Heat B alongside the heavyweights USA and the strong European teams like Spain and Poland.
The top two from each heat will qualify for the final alongside the two fastest non-qualifiers from 3 heats.
