Tokyo Olympics Day 8, 30th July Athletics LIVE: Kamalpreet Kaur shines while Seema Punia and Sreeshankar Murali are knocked out - Updates, results, commentary, blog
Follow all the latest news and updates as Indians compete in women's discus throw and men's long jump
A day that started with so much enthusiasm and positivity eventually ended with disappointment once again here on the second day of athletics at the Tokyo Olympics.
Sreeshankar Murali had a rather disappointing outing in the men's long jump qualification as he only managed to get the best effort of 7.69m which was never going to be enough to qualify for the finals.
India would be happy with Kamalpreet Kaur's qualification to the finals in what was the only major positive for the day not just in athletics but across all sports.
At the end of the day in the final event, we saw Elaine Thompson-Herah winning the gold and setting a new Olympic record in the process as well in the women's 100m event with a time of 10.61s.
That's all for today and thank you very much for joining us in the coverage.

India's Seema Punia is currently ranked sixth in her group. We'll have to wait for the results from Group B, to find out who all qualifies for the finals.
Looking at the performances in Group A, one would be really surprised if someone in Group B hits the 64m mark.
