Tejaswin Shankar win India's first-ever Commonwealth Games decathlon medal

Tejaswin Shankar etched his name into the history books on Friday, becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the men's decathlon at the Commonwealth Games, securing bronze with a total of 7,976 points despite battling a knee injury throughout the competition.

The national record holder entered the final 1500m race in medal contention and clocked 4:36.19 to finish fifth in the event, doing just enough to hold off England's Sammy Ball and seal the historic bronze.

Grenada's Lindon Victor claimed the gold medal with 8,096 points, while Canada's Damian Warner took silver with 8,036. Shankar finished third with 7,976 points.

The bronze capped a gritty two-day campaign for the Indian, who showed remarkable resilience after suffering a knee injury during the competition.
