Indian hurdler Tejas Shirse made history at the CMCM Indoor Meeting in Luxembourg by clocking an impressive 7.65 seconds in the 60m hurdles final, breaking the previous national record of 7.70 seconds set by Siddhanth Thingalaya in 2017.

This achievement comes months after Shirse broke the national record in the 110m hurdles in May 2024, where he clocked 13.41 seconds at a World Athletics Continental Tour event in Finland, surpassing Thingalaya’s previous record of 13.48 seconds. Shirse’s remarkable consistency highlights his emergence as one of India’s top hurdlers.

Shirse's performance placed him fifth overall in a highly competitive race, sharing the position with David Yefremov of Kazakhstan. The race was dominated by Poland's Jakub Szymanski, who took gold with a blistering time of 7.41 seconds, followed by Belgium’s Elie Bacari (7.55s) and Poland’s Damian Czykier (7.60s).

While Shirse's record-breaking feat stands as a monumental achievement for Indian athletics, he fell just 0.08 seconds short of the qualification mark for the World Indoor Championships. Nonetheless, this performance highlights Shirse’s potential as a rising star in Indian track and field.

The event was a testament to the growing competitiveness of Indian athletes on the global stage, as Shirse continues to push boundaries and inspire future generations.
