Sarvesh Kushare wins India's first-ever Commonwealth Games high jump silver

India's Sarvesh Kushare won the silver medal in the men's high jump at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after clearing 2.25m in Glasgow on Tuesday.
Jamaica's Raymond Beckford claimed the gold medal, while Australia's Yual Reath took bronze with a best clearance of 2.20m.
Sarvesh enjoyed an excellent outing, clearing 2.05m, 2.10m, 2.15m and 2.20m on his first attempts. He then overcame 2.25m to remain in contention for the title before failing to clear 2.28m.
The silver medal is one of the best achievements of the 31-year-old's career and adds another athletics medal to India's tally at the Commonwealth Games.
India had three athletes in the men's high jump final.
Aadarsh Ram finished fifth with a best clearance of 2.15m. The youngster successfully cleared 2.05m, 2.10m and 2.15m before three unsuccessful attempts at 2.20m ended his campaign.
Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar was forced to withdraw early in the competition. The Birmingham 2022 bronze medallist failed to clear his opening height of 2.05m and experienced discomfort after the attempt. As a precaution, he decided against taking any further jumps, with his decathlon campaign still to come later in the Games.
Sarvesh's podium finish continues India's strong tradition in the men's high jump at the Commonwealth Games and delivers another medal for the country's athletics contingent in Glasgow.
