SAAF Junior Athletics C'ships: India wins title with 48 medals
The third day saw Sri Lanka take the honors in the relay, Deepika from India once again lit up the women's javelin.

Chennai: The fourth edition of the SAAF Junior Athletics concluded today, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with the Indian athletics team winning the title.
India bagged 48 medals in the three-day event, including 21 golds, 22 silvers and 5 bronze. Sri Lanka finished with a respectable 35 medals (9 gold, 9 silver, 17 bronze), and they took the honors in the relay events on the third and final day.
Sri Lanka’s W Merone Julian, the 100m winner, anchored the Sri Lankan relay team to victory with a meet record of 40.28s, beating the previous 41.27s set in 2007.
India's biggest women's javelin prospect Deepika once again shone today, winning the gold with a record-breaking 54.98m throw.
Poonam of India finished second and secured silver, with a best throw of 51.21m.
Incidentally, both throwers were coached by Hanuman Singh, who was very happy with the performance of his students.
"Very happy for Deepika and Poonam. Deepika has broken records everywhere, and she broke the meet record today as well. Poonam is a newcomer, who has been training for just two years and she has performed wonderfully today," Hanuman said, talking to reporters after the game.
The Indian women's 4x100m relay team also broke the meet record on their way to the gold medal, clocking in at 45.08s (meet record 46.23s).
