Odisha as a state is growing tremendously when it comes to sports, especially with the recently concluded Khelo India University games in Bhubaneswar.

It got only better for the state when Jayanti Behera becomes the first para-athlete from Odisha to qualify for 2020 paralympics. She is a track and field athlete who competes in events of 200m, 400m and 800 meter. World champion Behera is also a gold medalist in TR 400m event at world youth championship.

She is also a gold medalist in the national para athlete championship in 2018 in all the three events.

She had second degree burns when she was merely one year old. Thought to be a liability for her parents by the society, she broke this stereotype and made it to the world of athletics.
