Gomathi Marimuthu, the 800m gold medalist in the recently concluded Asian Championship held in Doha, has tested positive as per a report by Deccan Herald.

While speaking to The Bridge this morning, the 30-year-old exclaimed that she is unaware of the incident. “I have never doped in my life. Even during the Asian Championships, I remember taking mineral water. The news of me failing in dope test is not true." The athlete who is in Delhi for the ongoing national preparatory camp, mentioned that no one from Athletics Federation of India has reached out to her yet. “I have not yet been informed that my name from the national probables’ exposure trip to Poland has been omitted. I still know I am going to Poland. We are scheduled to leave on Thursday,” she added.

Earlier, Gomathi clocked a personal best of 2:02.70 with a gallant run over the final lap after being pushed to sixth place just after the bell. On the back straight, she went past a pair of Sri Lankan runners and moved to third place with 200m left. Running on the outside, the 30-year-old could sense Kazakhstan’s Margarita Mukasheva and the leader Wang Chunyu losing pace. And she willed herself to sustain her charge till the gold was won.
