Former Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra finished second at the Lausanne Diamond League recording his season-best throw of 89.49m on Thursday.

This is also the second-best throw of Neeraj's decorated career with 89.94m being his personal best which he threw at the 2022 Stockholm Diamond League.

Neeraj came second to the 90.61m throw of former World Champion Anderson Peters of Grenada who also broke the meet record.

It was a night when Neeraj was struggling with four throws below 85m but the current world champion turned up the head in the last two throws to jump from fourth to second place with his season best.

Neeraj recorded a mediocre 82.10m in the first throw and was placed fourth as Anderson Peters, Julian Weber, and Roderick Dean led the field.

He improved to 83.21m on the second attempt but it was not good enough to match the 88.49m throw of Peters who maintained his lead after the second round.

Neeraj was placed fourth while Weber stayed at second with the best throw of 87.08m and the Ukranian thrower was placed third with the best throw of 83.38m.

In the third throw, Neeraj turned with 83.13m and stayed at fourth with Peters and Weber topping the field.

Neeraj was struggling it seemed as he registered 82.34m in his fourth attempt.

It was the fifth throw where Neeraj showed some improvement and threw 85.58m to move up to third place and kept his streak of finishing in the top three alive.

With Peters throwing 90.61m in the last attempt and Julian Weber throwing 82.33m, the onus was on Neeraj to do something special and he delivered the second-best throw of his career.

However, with another 89m throw, the agonizing wait of Neeraj breaching the 90m mark continued for the Indian fans.
