Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke a 28-year-old world record in the men's 3000m, and two-time Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis broke his own Pole Vault world record he set at the Paris Olympics 2024 at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday.
Jakob, the 23-year-old middle-distance runner from Norway, broke the world record in the men's 3000m by nearly four seconds, finishing the race with a timing of 7:15.55s.
The record was hitherto held by Kenya's Daniel Komen, who set it back in 1996.
Speaking to the reporters after the game, Ingebrigtsen said, "It feels special, amazing. I would not have imagined I could run 7:17, though. At the beginning, the pace felt really fast, but then I started to feel my way into the race and found a good rhythm."
"Now I want to challenge world records at all distances, but it is one step at a time,” he added.
Duplantis flies high once again
Swedish star pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis broke his own world record he set at the Paris Olympics by one centimetre, with a 6.26m vault.
After confirming his gold medal with a 6.00m vault initially, Duplantis went straight for the world record. After a failed first attempt at the world record, he was successful in his second attempt and set off wild celebrations amongst the spectators.
This is the tenth time Duplantis set the world record. Speaking after his performance, the 24-year-old said, “It almost feels weird and unnatural to get so much love and support from the crowds when I compete,”
"My first world record also came in Poland, indoors in Torun, so I have great memories from here," he added.
