India’s latest javelin throw sensation, Sachin Yadav, is set to miss the forthcoming Indian Open Throws competition, scheduled for March 20-21 at Reliance Academy in Navi Mumbai.
The 25-year-old athlete is yet to recover from an ankle injury he sustained during the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, reported NNIS.
"I don't think he will be able to participate. His ankle is not healed, and it won't heal that quickly. Our target is the Federation Cup,” said his coach, Naval Singh.
Sachin grabbed the spotlight after winning the gold medal at the National Games earlier this month with his best effort of 84.39m.
Not only did he set a new personal best, but he also broke the long-standing National Games record of Rajinder Singh (82.23m), who set the mark in 2015 in Kerala.
During the National Games final, Sachin twisted his ankle while attempting his first throw. However, he maintained his composure to achieve his best throw in the fifth attempt.
However, Sachin’s effort was just over a metre short of the qualifying mark (85.50m) for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
He now holds the fourth-highest mark in men’s javelin throw by an Indian, behind Olympic gold and silver medallist Neeraj Chopra (89.94m), Shivpal Singh (86.23m), and Davinder Singh (84.57m).
