Elite Indian athletes continued their pursuit of the Asian Games quota spots on the second day of the Inter-State Athletics C'ships in Odisha on Thursday.
Indian national record holders Animesh Kujur and Mohammad Afsal P breached the qualifying marks in the men's 200m and 800m finals, while Jyothi Yarraji missed out in women's 200m.
Krishna Jayasankar and Manpreet Kaur in women's shot put and Sindhushree and Baranica Elongovan in women's pole vault also earned Asiad qualification.

Sindhushree beats Baranica Elangovan to win the women's pole vault title
The 25-year-old improved India's national record with a jump of 4.25m on her first attempt to finish ahead of former record holder Baranica, who won the silver medal with 4.20m.

Animesh Kujur improves his heats timings to win the 200m men's title
He clocked 20.74s in the final to win the race. This timing was also under the Asian Games qualifying mark of 20.88s.

A big personal best of 23.14s for Harita Bhadra in women's 200m final
With this, she wins the title and is now the 9th fastest 200m runner from India. Unnathi Bollanda also registered a new personal best of 23.40s to finish second in the race.

The veteran shot putter did a personal best on her fifth attempt to take the lead in the final and also qualify for the Asian Games.

Gowthami Jayaraman wins the women's 800m title
She clocked a timing of 2:04.17s to finish in top position ahead of Pooja (2:04.37s) and Lili Das (2:04.59s) in the final.
All three medalists also breached the Asian Games mark (2:05.21); however, a maximum of only two athletes can qualify per event.
