Hima Das sits for Class 12th exam, hopes to continue studying

Guwahati: India’s latest track sensation Hima Das appeared for her class XII exams at her native place at Dhing College in Nagaon district in Assam on Tuesday.

Hima, a student of Arts stream said that her first day at the exam was good. She also expressed her desire to continue her studies along with the sports.

“I feel great today to be appearing in the exam with my friends with whom I used to do attend classes and do mischievous stuff. I have met them after a long time. Though I couldn’t prepare that well for the exams, with the limited time, I think it was okay. I would like to continue with my game simultaneously. Because to have the educational qualification is also important,” said Hima after her exams on Tuesday.

“If I don’t continue my study, how would I speak in English abroad,” she was quick to add.

Hima who became the first Indian athlete to win the gold at the youth world championship at the track event in July last year at the World Youth Athletic Championship in Finland has also thanked her teachers for lending a helping hand to pursue her dreams in education.

“I’m grateful to my teachers. They had sent the necessary books through courier at my camp in Patiala,” she added.

She also said that at the moment she is trying to keep her health good so that no injury happens.

“It’s my off season and I’m just taking care of my body and doing some study. I’m here till my exams are over. Next target is to get back to the practice and do my best,” Hima added.

For the teachers and the fellow students, it was an exciting moment to have their celebrity student and classmate by their side.

Manju Neog, the vice principal of Dhing College, posted a photo of her with Hima terming Hima as her beloved student.
