Since September 2018, immediately after the Asian Games, Indian Table Tennis coach and the man often credited with turning the sport around in the country Massimo Costantini's resignation, the Indian National team has been without a foreign coach. That is set to change as Sports Authority of India announced the appointment of two foreign coaches last evening- Australian Brett Clarke for the Junior contingent and China's Yin Wei for the TT Academy. https://twitter.com/Media_SAI/status/1091296104547827713 Clarke, an Olympian and a former Commonwealth Games Silver medalist is an experienced coach having served as the head coach of the Australian TT contingent on two occasions and stints- 2009 to 2010 and from 2017 to 2018. Yin Wei on the other hand is no stranger to India having previously been associated with Petroleum Sports Promotion Board where he trained with prominent Indian paddlers like Soumyajit Ghosh. Table Tennis is not the only sport to get a makeover, however. Late last night, SAI also announced the appointment of foreign coaches and support staff for Athletics. https://twitter.com/Media_SAI/status/1091295395844636672 Satshuk has been associated with the relay team of Bahrain in the past. Currently, especially after the Asian Games, coach Galina Bukharina had been in focus for the marvellous success of the sprinters in Jakarta. Reports suggest that while Bukharina will be concentrating on the Indian team in general, Satshuk has been roped in predominantly to work with Hima Das to groom her as a possible medal investment. Dr. Paed Habil Klaus, on the other hand, is a biochemical expert. Another contemporary from Germany, the legendary Javelin Thrower Uwe Hohn will be concentrating on Neeraj Chopra and offering his help to the rest of the contingent as and when needed. They will, otherwise, be predominantly working with Dr. Klaus. The core group of the Athletics Federation of India consists of 12 javelin throwers and 25 runners in the 400m for the 2020 Olympics. The NSF will definitely be looking at clinching a historic medal in Athletics at the 2020 Games and so far, every decision taken seems to keep that in mind.
