Indian sprinter Dutee Chand escaped injury in a car accident near OMP Square in Cuttack, Odisha, on Thursday evening.

While returning to Bhubaneswar from her native Jajpur district with a friend, a truck hit her car and tried to run away. Dutee followed the truck and informed the Madhupatna police station, who detained the driver for questioning.

Although her car sustained damage, Dutee and her friend escaped unhurt. The truck driver allegedly used foul language when Dutee confronted him. Both Duee and her friend were rescued to safety, said Dutee.

She alleged that the truck came from behind while she was passing the busy Cuttack road and tried to overtake her. Even though she gave it passage, the truck hit the car from the side and extensively damaged it. Later the truck tried to flee.

Dutee is a well-known Indian athlete who has achieved many milestones in her career. She is a two-time Olympian and holds the national record for the 100 metres. In 2019, she became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the 100-metre race at the World Universiade in Naples, Italy.

Dutee lodged a complaint at the police station.
