Commonwealth Games 2026: Who is Yash Vir Singh?
After breaking Neeraj Chopra's long standing U20 Federation Cup meet record, Yash Vir Singh is set to make his Commonwealth games debut.

Yash Vir Singh will represent India in the men's javelin throw and make his debut at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 24 year old from Haryana heads into the competition with a personal best of 83.72m.
Early days
Born on October 22, 2001, in Devsar village near Bhiwani, Haryana, Yash Vir Singh comes from a sporting family. His father, Rai Singh, is a former national level javelin thrower, a former Railways champion and a retired Railways coach.
Yash started throwing the javelin in 2015 under the guidance of his father. Having experienced the challenges of competing without proper coaching during his own career, Rai Singh decided to train his son and help him avoid the mistakes he had made.
Yash first made a name for himself by winning gold medals at the U-18 National Championships in 2017 and 2018 before claiming a silver medal at the 2019 Junior National Championships.
Rise through the ranks
Yash first grabbed national attention when he broke Neeraj Chopra's long-standing meet record at the Indian U20 Federation Cup with a throw of 78.68m. The following year, he entered the elite 80m club by throwing 82.13m at the Indian Grand Prix, establishing himself as one of India's most promising young javelin throwers.
His consistent performances helped him earn regular opportunities at senior international competitions and become part of India's growing strength in men's javelin.
Achievements
Yash first made his mark by winning medals at the youth and junior national championships before progressing to the senior level.
He won the gold medal at the Indian Open Athletics Meet in Chennai in 2025 and followed it up with another gold medal at the G. Arzumanov Memorial meet in Uzbekistan.
Later that year, he finished fifth at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, with a personal best throw of 82.57m and earned selection for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where he made his world championship debut. In 2026, he improved his personal best to 83.72m while winning the silver medal at the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships.
Those performances secured his place in India's squad for the 2026 Commonwealth games.
