Avinash Sable sets sight on the 2024 Diamond League Silesia
The Indian distance runner will take on the world's best in the 3000m steeplechase.
Fresh from the Paris Olympics, Avinash Sable will now take part in the 2024 Silesia Diamond League and is set to feature in the men's 3000m steeplechase event.
The race is scheduled to take place on the 25th of August and boasts of a strong set of contenders, most of whom Sable had competed against in Paris.
The Indian national record holder did well at the Paris Olympics, becoming the first Indian to qualify for the final of the men's 3000m steeplechase at the Olympics.
He finished 11th in the finals, with a timing of 8:14.18s.
Morocco's El Bakkali took the gold, while Kenneth Rooks of the USA and Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya secured the silver and bronze medals respectively.
All three medal holders will be seen in action at Poland on 25th August.
Incidentally, it was at the Silesia Diamond League last year where Avinash Sable confirmed his Paris Olympics qualification after finishing within the requisite timing.
Sable last year finished sixth with a timing of 8:11.63s, well within the 8:15.00s qualifying standard set for Olympic qualification.
He won the gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and will be looking to continue his good form into this year's diamond league as well.
