Gulveer, Seema end India's gold medal drought at Asia Cross Country C'ships
Senior Indian athletes won four gold medals at the Asian Cross-Country Championships, ending the country's gold medal drought since 1993.
Gulveer Singh dazzled at the Asian Cross Country Championships in Hong Kong on Saturday.
Gulveer won the gold medal in the 10 Km cross-country event with a timing of 32.43.
Gulveer became the first Indian individual gold medallist at the event. He also ended India's gold medal drought in the senior category. The last time India won a gold medal at the senior Asian Cross-Country Championships was in the men’s team way back in 1993.
Meanwhile, India clean swept the men's cross-country event, with Abhishek Pal and Arun Rathod winning silver and bronze medals.
Later, the Indian team of Gulveer, Abhishek, Arun, and Karthik Kumar won the gold medal in the men's team event.
Overall, India won seven gold medals.
In the women's team event, India emerged as champion, with Ankita, Seema, Sanjivani Jadhav, and Sonika combining to win the team gold.
In the women's individual race, Seema won the gold medal in the 10km race with a timing of 37.20, while Sanjivani Jadhav won the silver medal for clocking 37:21.
Alongside the seniors, Indian junior athletes also impressed, with the team of Ekta Dey, Sunita Devi, Shilpa Dhiora, and Prachi Ankush Devkar winning a gold medal in the women’s U20 category. Indian junior team men's also won a gold medal.
Shilpa, on the other hand, added another medal to her name as she won the silver medal in the women's U20 individual category.
