Amanat Kamboj clinched the gold medal at U18 women's discus throw event at National Junior Athletics Championships.

Amanat Kamboj of Punjab caught the limelight on the first day of the National Junior Athletics Championships, as she broke the 12-year-old meet record in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Saturday.

She clinched the gold medal in the U18 women's discus throw event with the best throw of 52.89m to achieve this feat. She registered her dominance on the very first throw of the competition.

Riddhi of Haryana clinched the silver medal in this event with the best throw of 48.80m whereas the bronze medal went to the favor of Supriya Attri of Uttar Pradesh, having the best throw of 46.57m.

Amanat came into the limelight earlier this year when she won the Asian U20 silver medal in Dubai with the best throw of 50.4m. She also reached the final of the World U20 Championship this year.

Abhinaya levels Dutee Chand's national record

The young sprinter, Abhinaya Rajarajan of Tamil Nadu equaled the 11-year-old national record of star Indian athlete Dutee Chand in the 100m women's U18 sprint event.

She clocked a timing of 11.62s to win the opening heat and booked a place in the final. She was the only athlete at the event to clock a timing of under 12 seconds.

The opening day concluded with the U20 4*400 Mixed relay final where Maharashtra clinched the gold medal after clocking a timing of 3:31.11.

Meanwhile, Haryana's relay team clinched the silver medal with a timing of 3:33.02 and Tamil Nadu bagged the bronze medal with a timing of 3:33.90.
