Commonwealth Games 2026: All you need to know about Seema Kaliramna
Seema has successfully balanced the demands of elite athletics with motherhood, academics and is in persuit of record-breaking throws.

Ace Indian discus thrower Dr Seema Kaliramna is an elite athlete from Haryana. She is also an academic scholar pursuing her PhD in Physical Education at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University (CBLU) in Bhiwani, Haryana.
At the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships, Seema achieved a personal best throw of 59.73 metres to book her berth for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Early Days
Seema grew up in a sporting family and was introduced to sports in general during her childhood by her father, who was an athlete himself. Her father is a former basketball player and javelin thrower in the Indian Army.
Seema is now coached by her husband, Ravinder also known as Monu Kaliramna, a former national-level discus thrower.
After pregnancy, Seema staged a highly inspiring comeback, returning to the throwing circle just 11 months after giving birth to her son, Rudra.
The road was anything but smooth. Struggling to find the rhythm, her movements felt rusty as she fought to regain her form. Seema confronted each one head-on with determination and resilience.
Her remarkable sporting achievements have made headlines, as she successfully balanced the demands of elite athletics with motherhood and advanced academics.
Rising through the ranks
Seema has reportedly won more than 32 medals for India across her throwing career including representing India at the Youth Asian Championships. She clinched gold at the inaugural Khelo India University Games in early 2020. Seema narrowly missed out on qualification for the Paris Olympics.
Last year, Seema rose to prominence by winning gold at the National Games with a best throw of 52.07m.
Her aim for now is to target the National Record which stands at 66.59m, set by Kamalpreet Kaur at the Indian Grand Prix-4 in 2021.
She achieved a massive personal best throw of 59.73 metres at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha and booked her berth for Glasgow.
