The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) named a 55-member Indian contingent for the forthcoming South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Junior Championships, which will start September 11 in Chennai.

Among the notable names who made it to the list was Sharuk Khan, the promising 3,000m Indian steeplechaser.

Sharuk broke the national U20 3,000m steeplechase record twice at the recently concluded World U20 Athletics Championships in Lima, Peru.

He finished tenth in the final for clocking a creditable timing of 8:42.06s.

Jay Kumar, a quarter-miler, is another promising name who made to the Indian team.

The three-day Championships will draw athletes from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan.
