Indian men's table tennis team beats Hong Kong 3-0 to secure the 5th position at the 2019 Asian Tabletennis Championships on Wednesday.

India's top trio, comprising Achanta Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan and Anthony Amalraj dominated the show against the opponents as they picked up 3-2, 3-1, 3-1 wins, respectively.

Sharath went on to win the first game against Lam Siu Hang with a scoreline of 9-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7 and gave India an edge from the beginning. It was followed by Amalraj's 9-11, 11-4, 11-6. 11-7 triumph over NG Pak Nam.

Earlier the Indian men’s team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Japan in their first-round match of the Championship Division. India’s worst fears came true when they were pitted against Japan in what was effectively the quarters, the team which ousted them in the same round during the previous edition.

In the 5-8 position draw, India also defeated Singapore 3-0. With this win, India will gain a direct entry in the next Asian championships in 2021.
