Asian Para Games: India sweeps podium in men's Javelin F46

India won a total of 17 medals in Para Athletics on the third day of the Asian Para Games 2023.

Indian javelin throwers' dominance continues at the Asian Para Games with another clean sweep of medals on Tuesday in Hangzhou, China.

Sundar Singh Gurjar took the gold medal in the men's Javelin throw F46 event with a world record of 68.60m. Rinku Singh (67.08m) and Ajeet Singh (63.52m) won silver and bronze in the same event respectively to complete the podium sweep.

Sundar Singh broke the previous world record of 67.79m held by Sri Lanka's Herath Mudiyanselage with his final attempt of 68.60m. This throw took him to the top of the podium surpassing his teammate Rinku.

This was an outstanding day for Indian Para-Athletes as they collected as many as 17 medals including six gold medals.

Ankur Dhama (Men's 1500m T11) won his second gold of the Asian Para Games, while 17-year-old Haney set a new Games record of 55.97m in men's javelin F37/38 to win the gold medal.

It was 1-2 for the Indians in the women's T11 1500m event with Rakshitha Raju (5:21.45) and Killaka Lalitha (5:48.85) taking gold and silver respectively.

Nimisha Suresh Chakkungalparambil added a gold medal in women's T47 long jump events, clearing 5.15m to take India's gold medal tally to 15.

Pooja won a silver in women's F54/55 discus throw while Narayan Thakur and Shreyansh Trivedi picked up a bronze medal each in men's T35 200m and T37 200m with timing of 29.83s and 25.26s respectively.

Indians finished second and third in both the men's T13 1500m race and men's F47 shot put events.

Sharath Shankarappa Makanahalli (4:13.60) and Balwant Singh Rawat (4:20.58) clinched silver and bronze while Rana Soman (14.42) and Hokato Hotozhe Sema (13.94) finished second and third respectively.

India has won a total of 38 medals in Para Athletics, including 13 gold, 13 silver, and 12 bronze, sitting second in the sports-specific medal tally behind China.
