India built on its first medal tally of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, adding five more medals from the day with Mirabai Chanu winning the weightlifting silver.
The country has now collected twelve medals, including one gold, five silver and six bronze, but has slipped down to 13th in the medal tally.
Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women’s 49kg category with a 198kg total, securing her maiden Asian Games medal. The Olympic silver medallist won an Asian Games weightlifting medal for India since Karnam Malleswari’s silver in 1998.
Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol final as India finished the women's air pistol event without any medal.
However, India won bronze in both the men’s and women’s skeet team events, and Jay Meena secured India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis with a men’s singles bronze.
India lost 1-3 to China in the men’s team semifinal and settled for bronze. Indian Kabaddi teams continued their winning streak and advanced to the semis to confirm medals.

Weightlifting, Women's 49Kg Final: Mirabai Chanu wins silver medal with 198kg total
Mirabai Chanu's long wait for an Asian Games medal ended as she bagged a silver medal in women's 49kg in Japan.
After an 87 Kg Snatch, she finished the Clean & jerk competition with 111 Kg to confirm the silver medal, with a total of 198kg.
North Korea's Ri Song Gum took the title with 215 Kg: 94 kg + 121 kg.
