Asian Games 2026: India reach all 6 team semi-finals in archery

India made a strong start to their 2026 Asian Games archery campaign as both the men's and women's compound teams marched into the semifinals along with the recurve and mixed teams with a string of convincing victories on Sunday.

The men's compound team of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Thirumuru began the competition with a 235-215 win over the UAE in the round of 16 before edging Bhutan 235-232 in the quarterfinals.

The women's compound trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep also registered two wins, defeating Mongolia 238-223 in the round of 16 and Kazakhstan 233-230 in the quarterfinals.

Both Indian compound teams will face South Korea in the semi-finals on September 30.

In the men's recurve section, Dhiraj Bommadevara, Niraj Chauhan and Yashdeep Bhoge opened with a 5-1 win over the Philippines before registering another identical victory to seal their place in the semi-finals.

The women's recurve team of Kirti, Kumkum Mohod, and Ankita Bhakat also enjoyed a dominant run, blanking Mongolia and Chinese Taipei 6-0 in their respective matches to advance to the last four.

Later in the recurve mixed team event, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum defeated the UAE 6-0 before producing an identical scoreline against Vietnam to book their semifinal berth.

The compound mixed team of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav also made it through, beating Mongolia 160-146 and Kazakhstan 159-154 in their two matches.

India had swept all five available gold medals in compound archery at the Hangzhou Asian Games, held in 2023, and will look to maintain their dominance in the discipline in Japan.
