Asian Games 2026: Elavenil wins two silvers as India assures more medals in MMA, cricket - Highlights

India enjoyed a productive day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, September 20, winning two silver medals in shooting and assuring medals in MMA and women’s cricket.
Elavenil Valarivan was at the centre of India’s medal haul, winning silver in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event and then helping the Indian women’s team secure another silver alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod. Elavenil scored 252.4 in the individual final, finishing behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi.
India also made history in MMA as Suchika Tariyal defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 in the women’s Traditional 60kg quarterfinal, assuring India its first-ever Asian Games MMA medal.
In cricket, the Indian women’s team stormed into the gold medal match with a 114-run win over Bangladesh. Shafali Verma smashed an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls as India posted 195/4 before bowling Bangladesh out for 81.
Elsewhere, India’s women’s hockey team thrashed Uzbekistan 19-0, while the men defeated Indonesia 13-1. The women’s badminton team also advanced with a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan.
India will return to action on Monday with more medal opportunities.

Shooting, 10m Air Rifle Women's Individual final: Elavanil confirms the medal
With only three shooters remaining in the competition after 20 shots, Elavenil still held on to her lead at the top with a total score of 211.1, followed by Japan's Hinata at 210.8.
This means that she has confirmed her first-ever Individual Asian Games medal.

Shooting, 10m Air Rifle Women's Individual final: Sonam Maskar finishes 6th, Elavanil still at the top
Elavenil further extends her lead at the top with two good shots, having a total score of 169.6 after 14 shots, followed by Korea's Ban at 168.2.
Meanwhile, Sonam dropped to 6th with a score of 167 and was eliminated from the competition after 16 shots.

Elavenil is maintaining her place at the top of the standings with a score of 126.9 after 12 shots, followed by Japan's Nobota at 126.5.
Meanwhile, Sonam had a brilliant two shots above the 10.5 mark and has now risen to the top 4 with a score of 125.5.

Shooting, 10m Air Rifle Women's Individual final: Elavenil remains at top after 10 shots
Another good series of five shots for the reigning world medalist Elavenil, as she maintained her place at the top of the standings with a score of 106, followed by Japan's Nobota at 105.3.
Meanwhile, Sonam had an identical score of 52.1 in her second series of five shots, rising above by one spot in the standings to 6th.

Shooting, 10m Air Rifle Women's Individual final: Elavenil at top after 5 shots
After the first five shots, Elavenil is at the top of the standings with a score of 53.1, followed by Japan's Nobota at 52.5.
Meanwhile, Sonam had a comparatively slower start, hitting 52.1 from her first five shots and is currently in 7th place.

Elavenil Valarivan and Sonam Maskar will fight for the individual medals in the women's air rifle final.
In an 8-athlete final field, Elavenil and Sonam will be up against two athletes each from China, Japan and South Korea.

Table Tennis, Men's Team: India sweep Indonesia 3-0
Manush Shah completed the job with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 12-10) win over Affan Pratama, as the Indian men’s team swept Indonesia 3-0 in their Group F opener.
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran set the tone by giving India an early lead, before Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah followed with wins in their respective matches.
India will next face Iran in their Group F match.

Table Tennis, Men's Team: Manush Shah in lead
It is Manush Shah vs Affan Pratama in the third match of India’s Group F tie against Indonesia.
Manush trailed 3-6 in the opening game but turned things around to win 11-9.
The second game followed a similar script. Pratama raced to a 6-1 lead and was ahead 9-7, but Manush produced a late surge, winning four points on the trot to take the game 11-9 and move 2-0 ahead.
